From the moment the lights came on in Oxford, this felt like more than just another SEC game.
Lane Kiffin returned to the place where he spent five seasons building Ole Miss into a national program. Execpt this time, he wasn’t wearing an Ole Miss long sleeve. He was standing on the opposite sideline as the LSU head coach.
Ole Miss came out firing, scoring 24 points before halftime while LSU struggled to find any rhythm offensively. The Rebels weren’t just winning the game, they were controlling it, and for a while, it looked like Kiffin’s return to Oxford was going to turn into a long night.
Until the Tigers woke up.
LSU flipped the momentum after the half, scoring 14 points in the thrid quater and eventually tying the game 24-24 early in the fourth.
The Revels put together a 13-play, 75-yard drive that took 5:07 off the clock, with Chambliss eventually breaking through for a 14-yard touchdown run to put Ole Miss back in front 30-24.
Pete Golding wasn’t going to settle for a extra point, Golding put the pressure back on Lane Kiffin with a 2-point conversion.
LSU jumped offside twice. just for the Rebels to be even closer to the endzone.
What Went Wrong for LSU

For LSU, the biggest issue was the slow start. Falling behind 24-7 against a ranked Ole Miss team left too much ground to make up. LSU battled back to tie the game, but the defense couldn’t get the final stop, and the Tigers’ last chance ended with an interception in the end zone.
And for Lane Kiffin, the irony couldnt have been better.
When Kiffin was Ole Miss’ coach, he famously had the visiting locker room painted pink. Now, just a year later, he walked back into that pink locker room.
A game to remember for sure, but a rivalry that isn’t over.
