The Yankees are going back to Ocotober. Great. Now, act like you’ve been there before.

The Yankees offically clinched a postseason berth on Monday night with an 8-3 comeback victory over the Minnesota Rwins, marking the Yankees’ ninth playoff appearance in the last 10 seasons. Aaron Judge provided the biggest moment, crushing a three-run homer in the eighth inning for his first home run since returning from the injuried list.

But Yankees fans should not be throwing a parade because this team clinches a Wild Card Spot.

A Wild Card berth is the baseball equivalent of barely crossing the finish line. And for an organization with this kind of standard, simply making October shouldn;t be considered the goal.

The Standard is Higher

The Yankees have 12 games left. The Wild Card is secured. Now the real objective is the division.

The Yankees have a dangerous opponent waiting for them in the Wild Card and thats the Boston Red Sox.

Boston has been playing with nothing to lose, especially after parting ways with manager Alex Cora earlier this season. Since then, the Red Sox have found a different gear and improved to being an underdog team this postseason.

Celebrate for a night.

The get back to work.

The Yankees didn’t accomplish their goal on Monday.

They simply made sure they still have the opportunity to accomplish it.

October baseball is coming back to New York. Now let’s see what the Yankees actually do with it.
